About La Romana
La Romana is located in the Southeastern part of Dominican Republic. The capital city of Santo Domingo is about 120 km away from it. With more thant 250 000 inhabitants, La Romana is the third city of the country and is the capital city of La Romana’s province. The city takes its name from a Roman scale that was used to weigh merchandise.

Things to do in La Romana
Casa de Campo
It is resort complex located in the South West of the city. If you are a golfer, do not miss the occasion to have a swing on one of the 3 championships golf courses that the resort has to offer. There also is a marina where you could dock your boat and enjoy a walk down the harbour, you will fine nice shops, bars and restaurants
Altos de Chavón
This landmark is a replica from a 16th Century Mediterranean city. The construction of this little village started in 1976. It is one of La Romana’s most important landmarks, the village attracts all kind of tourists as it is highly recommended to visit it. There, you will find trendy shops, restaurants and an outdoor amphitheatre.
Casa de Campo International Port
This will be a marvel to look at if you are an avid boat fan. Indeed this new port inaugurated in 2002 can host many boats, including luxurious cruise ships. So enjoy a walk by the harbour and let yourself drift to a world of luxury.
La Romana is famous for its lovely white sandy beaches. So pack your sun cream, your sunglasses and a parasol and go have a lay on one of the beaches that the city has to offer. But be careful of the sun, it is very strong over there and you would not like to spend your holidays suffering from sunburn and being all red on the vacation’s pictures !
The Cigar Factory Tour – Tabacalera de Garcia
Get an insight to one of the country’s most famous product: cigars. This two hour visit will allow you to discover more about cigars, and if you book for the VIP tour, you will be able to try some of the factory’s product.
Travel tips for La Romana
1. The Café Tigro de Oro – Give a try to some local bar/cafés and restaurants to get some extra Dominican culture.
2. For a night out – Have dinner at the Gran Dominicus then let yourself take away by some Merengue music and dance until you can.
3 .Transport in La Romana – Try the Moto Concho, indeed it is not the safest way to go from a place to another but it is the cheapest and probably the funniest one.
4.Looking to shop ? Go to the Yina Bambu shop where you will be able to find a big local shop to bring some souvenirs back to your friends and family.
5. Driving in Dominican Republic – Be very careful if you are driving yourself around, the local way of driving in very different from what we are accustomed to.
