Santiago de los Caballeros- Title of the city
Santiago de los Caballeros or simply Santiago is the second-largest city in the Dominican Republic, and the fourth-largest city in the Caribbean. It is the capital of the Santiago Province and the major metropolis in the north-central region of the country. If rural areas are included city's population rises to 691,262 inhabitants. It's located approximately 155 km northwest of Santo Domingo and it's one of the Dominican Republic's cultural, political, industrial and financial centers.
Centro Leon is the modern center of Santiago. It offers art galleries, audiovisual presentations, cinemacafe, a library and multimedia services. There are also local and international expos all around the year. In the highest hill in the city there is Monumento de Santiago. Nowadays it's dedicated to the heroes of the Dominican Restoration War. From the hill there is spectacular view of the city and surrounding mountains.
In Santiago nightlife consists of nightclubs and bars where El Presidente and Bohemia are the most popular beers sold. Also there are some gambling sites. In central Santiago there's Casino Aloha Sol. It's good place to experience some local nightlife. Another option is Hodelpa Gran Almirante Casino. It's a Las Vegas-style gambling facility with an electric atmosphere. A third place worth considering is Matum Casino. It features 50 slot machines and 12 table games for visitors to enjoy.
Main shopping district of Santiago de los Caballero's is Calle del Sol. There the storefronts are selling clothing, electronics, housewares and also handmade goods. There are also 3 big shopping centres in Santiago that are Plaza Internacional, Bella Terra Mall and Colinas Mall.

Santiago de los Caballeros has a tropical wet and dry climate. The tropical trade winds help reduce the heat and humidity throughout the year so the average temperature varies little in the city. July and August are the warmest months and December and January are the coolest. The annual mean temperature is 25.8 °C and the average annual rainfall 1,022 mm.
Santiago has share taxis and many private and independent bus owners who form their own routes according to their demands. Also at the airport there are many taxis and mototaxis to choose from. Many bus lines connect Santiago with different cities in Dominican Republic.
