Welcome to Yvelines the department of His Majesty the King
Yvelines is a French department in the Ile-De-France region, which was created from the former department Seine-Et-Oise in 1968. The department is famous for its capital Versailles, which was also the capital of France under the Ancien Regime for more than a century. A lot of artists and writers have been sheltered there such as Emile Zola or Maurice Ravel and the land abounds with parks and gardens which offer beautiful landscapes.
A whole series of castles is available for you, including the castle of Versailles, the castle of Thoiry and his zoological garden or the castle of Saint-Germain-En-Laye. You can also visit museums, famous French artists’ houses and farms. Hiking through the countryside will make your day brighter.
You can find various flagship stores such as La cour des senteurs in Versailles if you are looking for fragrances. Otherwise, Yvelines abounds with shopping malls such as the luxury and fashion outlet One Nation Paris, Parly 2 or Velizy 2.
You can spend your night in many dance bars, stylish pubs and restaurants in Yvelines. Why not visit the National Velodrome Stadium? The best time to go to the theatres, shows but also operas and masked balls is in the evening.
Standard time zone: UTC/GMT +1 hour
Yvelines has an oceanic temperate climate with damp summer and moderate winter.
Yvelines offers convenient public transportation thanks to a road and rail network polarized towards Paris and completed by an important shipping route: the canalized Seine.
