Welcome to Fiuggi
Welcome to Fuiggi - The city of mineral waters
In the province of Frosinone, in the region of Lazio you will find a classic Italian hill town called Fiuggi, differenciating with the medieval old town , Fiuggi Citta and with the 20th century spa town, Fiuggi Terme.
The town was known since the 14th century for its said to be virtuous curative mineral water by people such as the Pope Boniface VIII or Michelangelo. Soon its water "Acqua di Fiuggi" was bottled and sent to all of European royalty. When in the 20th century spas came fashionable, the king of Italy renaimed the town, previously called Anticoli di Campagna, in honour of its most celebrated attraction, the spa town.
Every 2nd of February wooden pyramids are burned in the principal square of the town to remember the miracle of the stuzze, when San Biagio let appear fake flames to get rid of the invading troops and make them believe the place was already assaulted.
You can start your night in some restaurant tasting the wonderful local cuisine and relax having a drink in one of the bars you will find or go for a dance as well.
Like all Italian spa towns, Fiuggi counts with lots of great shopping spots, little stores and a big variety of goods but if you do not have enough with that, you can always head to Rome, not really far from Fiuggi.
You could start with a cultural view of the place visiting the tiny church of "Santa Maria del Colle", the church of "San Pietro" built on the ruins of an ancient castle or the church of San Biagio, rebuilt in the 17th century preserving some fresco paintings of Giotto's scholars. Then you could take a walk and take a look to the ornate Palazzo Falconi or the cast iron fountain in Piazza Piave, which conmemorates the arrival of running water in this town.
Standard time zone: UTC/GMT +1 hour
Fiuggi, as Frosinone in general, has a mediterranean climate with mild winters and dry hot summers. Throughout the year the temperature usually varies from 30°F to 90°F with the hottest month in July and the coolest in February.
You can just take a walk and discover Fiuggi by foot although the town is well communicated with other cities such as Rome by bus or train, so you can take advantage of it and discover some new places too.
