Lecce is an Italian town of 89,950 inhabitants, capital of the province of Puglia. Situated in a central position almost the Salento peninsula, is the common parent of a vast area of about 425,000 inhabitants, comprising 31 municipalities in the northern part of the province. Lecce is the capital of the easternmost province of Italy. "La Notte della Taranta" is Italy's biggest festival and one of Europe's most important events dedicated to typical culture. It takes place in Salento and is dedicated to the remembrance and valorisation of Salento's folk music and its fusion with other kinds of music – from world music to jazz to rock sic.
