It is relevant to know that the most famous president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, lived in Springfield from 1837 to 1861 when he moved to the White House. Accordingly, nowadays most of people are going to the Capital Township to visit all monuments linked to Abraham Lincoln such as his presidential museum, his house or his tomb at Oak Ridge Cemetery. You will surely spend a great time in this city.
Springfield is a historical city of War, which gives you the opportunity to visit the Korean War National Museum or the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Museum. Also, as the main living place of the Abraham Lincoln, this city can offer you a lot of things to see about him : the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, the historical Site of Lincoln's Home, the Lincoln Memorial Garden.
If you want to do some shopping with your friends or your family, you can go around the White Oaks Mall or the Capital City Shopping Center. For example, at the White Oaks Mall, you can find a lot of famous luxury brand and also the creation of Simon Property Group which leads the premium outlets of the Mall.
The best places to enjoy parties are located next to Jefferson street, because according to the residents, all the best restaurants, bars and nightclubs are there. Springfield has a humid continental climate, so a humid hot summer and a cold rather snowy winter. During the summer, the maximum temperature in July is around 24°C and during the winter, it is in January around -4.3°C.
In the town, Springfield has developed a great bus network called SMTD (Springfield Mass Transit District) which provides a public bus service. You can check on their website if you want to plan your journey in advance. There is one airport (Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport) and the main train station is Amtrack Springfield Station.
