In Ghent, there are many “Pubs” and clubs. If you would want, you could visit a different pub every day for almost a year! Ghent is also a student city so there is a really good atmosphere. But do not be worry, when it is the week-end, there is always the same atmosphere.


If you like shopping, Ghent may be a good town for you. You have to know that the shop hours are 10.00 am to 6.00 pm. On Sundays and during the vacation the shops are closed. Ghent offers really a wide variety of shops.
For instance if you have to go to only place, go to Velderstraat and Volderstraat. There are a lot of streets and they constitute the main shopping streets of Ghent. So do not forget to pass by this place during your stay in Ghent.


Ghent is really an old city, so you can be sure to find some historical buildings. These are some examples of famous buildings:

Belfry: one of the three medieval towers which give you an amazing view on the old city center of Ghent.

Sint-Niklaas church: is one of the oldest buildings in Ghent and it was built in a very particular gothic style. You can not compare this style with the styles we have now.

University: one of the best universities in Belgium. It was ranked many times as the best university in some fields.

Gravensteen: is a famous castle in Ghent from the Middle Ages. The name has a meaning, it means: “castle of the count”. There is a medieval torture museum inside this castle. If you like things related to the medieval times, you are going to love this castle!
