Kamloops is a city which Monks believe is “the Center of the Universe”. If you’re looking for peace, harmony, nature and entertainment, Kamloops, which is located in British Columbia, is definitely the best destination. With its population of approximately 93.000, the city is considered to be small, but its nevertheless worth visiting. Although the city is located on Thompson River and near Kamloops Lake, in an area of undisturbed nature, you will experience a great time by witnessing many cultural events and regional offers. The beautiful city, which is located 4 hours away from Vancouver, is well-known for its outstanding cultural and sports events. This becomes obvious, when keeping in mind that the city of Kamloops has become Canada’s Tournament Capital. Hiking, skiing and boating are just some of the sports activities offered by the city of Kamloops. Surely its name “Kamloops”, derives from this fact: 2000 years ago, this stunning area was inhabited by Secwepemc people, who spoke Shuswap which means “meeting of the waters”. Indeed, Shuswap is still spoken by some members of Tk'emlúps Indian Band. Moreover, the city of Kamloops is listed one of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in Canada. The city of the “meeting waters”, where you also will “meet” not only waters but welcoming and warm people, lots of recreational opportunities for nature loving people and events for adventure seekers. Aditionally the city is the hometown of famous stars, as for example football player Mitch Berger actor Michael Shanks and jazz musician Phil Nimmons. Even for the martial arts athletes among us there will be an exciting event: the WWE Smackdown World Tour takes place in Kamloops, in summer 2011.
