Welcome to Münster - The City of Churches

Münster is an international, intercultural major city in the northern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It was founded in 793 by the Frisian missionary Ludger who was forced to evangelise the so-called Münsterland. From that point Münster became a very religious city, pilgrims go there every year to visit the various amount of churches which Münster has. Münster is the city of bicycles, in no other city in Germany is this sort of urban transportation used as frequent as here. Münster is also known as one of the biggest student cities, currently 49.000 students live there but only some of them are recorded in the official population statistics because the majority has their primary residence somewhere else.

In Münster everything is about churches there are over 70. The most famous are the following :

St Josef
St. Lamberti
You should also visit the Münsteraner Schloss a castle located downtown and one of the most beautiful places there. It was built in 1767 for the Prince Bishop Maximilian Friedrich von Koenigsegg Roth-rock and nowadays it’s the Westphalia-Wilhelm University. You can also add a visit to the botanic garden of Muenster which is located on the left hand-side of the of the main building of the castle.
Nightlife
The nightlife district is called Kuhviertel here are many bars and pubs located. It’s really crowded on weekends so if you’re just interested in having a nice calm evening with one or two beers you should go there during the week.
