Rajasthan is the largest state by area of India, formed on 30 March 1949 when the former princely states of Rajputana merged to create India as it is known nowadays. It is situated in the north west of the country. Its capital and largest city is Jaipur, which means “the Victorious City”. It is also known as Pink City because it was repainted all in pink, in respect of Prince Albert's visit in 1876, due to the fact that this color symbolizes a warm welcome. Parts of what is now Rajasthan were part of the Indus Valley Civilization so the History of this state was built 5 000 years ago. Rajasthan used to be led by empires and kingdoms which created its great epic through time.
Sightseeing
A whole series of palaces, forts and Hindu temples are yours to discover! You can find the Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, also known as The Palace of the Winds, which is a marvel of the Rajput architecture. The Mehrangarh in Jodhpur is the most famous fort of Rajasthan and the temples of Dilwara are deemed for their artistic esthetics.
