Welcome to Bologna - the city of Culture and Music

Bologna is the capital of Emilia-Romagna Region in Northern Italy. The city is the oldest university in the world, University of Bologna, and it hosts thousands of students who enrich the cultural life of the city. Bologna is also famous for its towers and lengthy porticos, and it has one of the largest historical centres in Italy. In 2000 it was declared the European capital of culture and an UNESCO “city of music”.

Bologna has a lively nightlife, bars and nightclubs are grouped around Piazza Maggiore and the University District, specializes in cocktails and in the latest techno music or live music.
Shopping
Bologna is full of great stores and it can be hard to know where to begin, the main areas are Via Rizzoli, Via D'Azeglio, Via Farini and Via Castiglione. There are aslo many speciality food shops all throughout the city and a few daily food markets as the Mercato di Mezzo, of Piazza Maggiore, and the larger covered markets, Mercato delle Erbe, in Via Ugo Bassi.
