Welcome to Essaouira – The wind city of Africa

Essaouria is a fortified town which was add since 2001 in the Unesco's World Heritage. This fortified town was build in the 18th century according to the principles of contemporary European military architecture. Essaouria also known as Mogador is located in Morocco's Atlantic coast. This city is the heaven for windsurfers because of its coastal wind.
Sightseeing
One of the famous place is Skala du Port. At the entrance of the port you will see “Bab al Mersa” which is an historic huge door build with stone and you will also see the fish port of Essaouria. This place give you a view to the “Ile de Mogador” which is an uninhabited island and a sanctuary for Eleonora's falcons. It is possible to reach the island by boat but you have to have a boat licence. To discover Essaouria culture there is an Museum called “Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah Museum”. It holds a collection of costumes, jewellery, weapons and music instrumental.
Night-life
There are not wild party in Essaouira but there are a few places to enjoy local life. It possible to drink a beer at “Le chalet de la Plage” which is one of the best place to appreciate the sunset. There is also the “Restaurant de la Baie” which is located near to the beach. At this place you can eat some local dishes and listen live music which take place on the beach during summer.
Shopping
There are no big shopping mall but there are a lot of small local shop in where it is possible to find some interesting stuff. It could make a good gift or souvenir.

Climate
According to the Koppen Climate Classification Essaouira has a Mediterranean climate. Thus in autumn/winter it is mild while in spring/summer it is warm.

Bus and taxi are the main public transport. But there is an other local transport which is the Koutchi.
