Honolulu is Hawaii state's state capital and most populous city, Honolulu's population was 390,738 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of the City and County of Honolulu. Located on the island of Oahu, Honolulu is the main gateway to Hawaii which is a major tourist destination. Furthermore the city is a major gateway into the United States, a major hub for military defense, international business and offers a diverse variety of east-west and Pacific culture, cuisine and traditions. The city has been the capital of the Hawaiian islands since 1845 and after the attack on Pearl Harbor near the city on December 7, 1941, Honolulu gained historical recognition.

Night-life
To enjoy the nightlife in Hawaii the best to do is to go out in Honolulu. You can find something different to do every night of the week, whether it is savour good local food, enjoy live music or dance in a variety of restaurants, bars and lounges from Waikiki to Downtown Honolulu and Chinatown. Five of the best-go bars of Honolulu are the Mai Tai Bar which is very lively and popular with the locals, the Gordon Biersch Brewery, the Dukes canoe club, Bar 35 and Eleven 44.
Shopping
Of course Honolulu has plenty of original shops to buy Hawaiian products like the famous shirts, Muu Muus, T-shirts, shorts and capris and other gifts. The shop that is a "must" for most visitors is Hilo Hattie's. The flagship store (and manufacturing site) is at 700 N. Nimitz Highway in Honolulu. Another store can be found at the Ala Moana Shopping Center as well. It is an important mall with 260 shops and restaurants and is really lively thanks to its open-air setting with plants, landscaping and koi ponds to add to the atmosphere.
Sightseeing
The island of Oahu has plenty of diverse activities and particularly in Honolulu. You can go hiking around Manoa Falls, discover the amazing Waikiki Aquarium or just loose yourself to shop ine the Ala Moana Center.
But of course there are also the beautiful beaches, some of the most popular shores are Kailua Beach Park for the whole family, Waimea for its waves approved by the surfers and the beautiful Waikiki. And for the history fans the island has some great sites for them like Pearl Harbor or the Bishop Museum.

Honolulu has a tropical semi-arid climate with mostly dry summers due to a rain shadow effect. The temperatures don't vary a lot throughout the months, the average high is 80-90°F (27-32°C) and the average low is 65-75°F (18-24°C).
Public transportation
There are different ways of travelling with the public transportation throughout Honolulu and the neighbor islands. Oahu island is the most developed and the easiest to travel using public transportation. Visitors can use plenty of shuttles and trolleys. Adult fare is $2.50 which includes one transfer and a 4 day pass for visitors is $35.00. Visitors can also use taxis which are plentiful but quite expensive.
