Little Rock is the biggest city and the capital of Arkansas. It was founded by the French Jean-Baptiste Bénard de la Harpe in 1722. The city developped and became the capital of Arkansas in 1821. Despite the abrogation of segregation laws in the country, in 1857, Governor Faubus forbade 9 blacks students to enter in the highschool of the city. It caused confrontations during several weeks between Black and White people in front of the building. President Eisenhower intervened himself to make sure that the equality is respected. The "Little Rock Nine" has became a symbol of the struggle against racism. In 1978, Bill Clinton, future president of the United States, was elected Governor of Arkansas.
